About Syed

Born in Bangladesh, Syed came to London with his family at an early age and grew up in Tower Hamlets in the East End of London. He credits his parents – an industrious tailor and a hardworking housewife who is mother of seven – for instilling him with a work ethic and ambition that would characterise his future career.

After a series of tough interviews, Syed was selected out of 16,000 applicants to participate in series two of the BBC’s hit business show The Apprentice. During the 14 grueling weeks of competing, Syed project managed his team to victories. He was amongst the last five contestants to remain and departed just before the finals.

Since then Syed has successfully built several businesses and served as a board member and in non-exec director positions.


He is now co-founder and managing director of SAVORTEX Ltd, a dynamic technology company that has teamed up with Intel and pioneered the worlds first smart hand drying range for the corporate washroom sector which digitally report on real-time usage data and show an advert in response to hands being dried.

The company’s vision is to transform wasteful and costly commercial washrooms into sustainable and profitable smart spaces.

Syed founded the company in 2006 when he met inspiring product engineer Peter Williams and after three years of research and development, building several prototypes and overcoming all the expected financial challenges – SAVORTEX was born.

As the visionary and strategist behind SAVORTEX’s alliance with Intel® creating the big data and ad revenue share business model this has opened up the possibilities of strategic partnerships with the worlds leading and sustainability focused multinationals brands, including Shell, Rolls Royce, Honda, Carillion plc and RBS.

Syed has assembled a world-class team of engineers, designers, experienced managers and board of directors to assist in launching SAVORTEX on an international scale, firmly placing the company as leaders of a smart energy saving revolution.

As a dedicated and energetic entrepreneur, with an infectious enthusiasm for business, Syed also finds time to develop a sideline in hosting business events, leading awards ceremonies and keynote speaking. He hosted The Edge Competition final at the London Stock Exchange and led the University of Oxford’s Pioneering Ambitions scheme.
